Dr. Martin Luther King by Diana Tenes

As I was running into yoga
I noticed a man on the street
He looked at me
then pulled the phone away from his face and said
"Excuse me, Do you know what holiday it is today?
As I ran by him
I shouted "It's Martin Luther King Day!"

I thought how strange?!

How could this man not know!?
It was sad because the man was white-haired and white.
I thought:

How long did it take
for this holiday to be put into place?

How long did it take it take
for Dr.Martin Luther King
to have a voice?
that was heard and respected?

How many lives did it take for people to hear
and understand?

How much has changed since he spoke his message?
How much we need his words today!
How much work needs to be done!
How much we need to keep hearing his words!
How much we need to keep spreading his words!
