Lives matter

I walk out the door to the sidewalk

of a warm evening and and am struck

with the sound of two angry men’s voices filling the air

One is black one is white

I hear something about Black Lives Matter

A black woman pushes them trying to get them to back away from each other

They continue to discuss, argue, agitate

They spill into the street

I walk by wanting to getting away but want to hear what they’re saying

I am expecting a fist any second

I pass by

and think

Lives matter
